Lauds the air warriors for deterring inimical entities and providing succour during natural calamities
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has evolved into a technologically advanced entity while safeguarding the sovereignty of the country, and the resilience and tenacity displayed by the “air warriors” is worthy of emulation by the youth of India, said President Pranab Mukherjee here on Friday.
Speaking at the Air Force Station in Tambaram after awarding the President’s ‘Standard’ to the 125 Helicopter Squadron and ‘Colours’ to the Mechanical Training Institute (MTI), he said, “Apart from providing deterrence against inimical entities, both external and internal, our Armed Forces have been at the forefront of providing succour to our citizens during natural calamities. The operations by the Indian Air Force during the floods in Uttarakhand, J&K Valley and in Tamil Nadu deserve special mention and will always be remembered by the entire nation.”
‘Stellar role’
The President stated that the 125 Helicopter Squadron, during its deployment under the UN flag in Sierra Leone, was instrumental in securing the release of 232 captured Indian Army personnel. “In January 2016, the Squadron played a stellar role in confining the terrorists to a restricted area during the terror attack on the Air Force Station in Pathankot, thereby reducing casualties,” he said.
Established in 1935, the Mechanical Training Institute at the Air Force Station, Tambaram, is the oldest Technical Training Institute of the IAF.
